A five-minute Gift Aid checklist
Gift Aid adds 25p to every pound a UK taxpayer gives you, for basically no extra effort — as long as the paperwork's right. Here's what we check when we're setting a charity up:
- The donor has ticked (or been clearly asked) the Gift Aid declaration, not just assumed to have agreed
- Their name and home address are captured, not just an email — HMRC needs this
- Both batch and individual contributions are eligible for claiming, so nothing slips through
- Your CiviCRM Gift Aid settings actually match the wording HMRC expects
The most common thing we see missed isn't the tech, it's the declaration itself — donors skipping the tick box, or an old form still using outdated wording. Worth a five-minute check even if you set this up years ago.
